what’s little and what’s big

there’s a phenomenon that exist in relationships i think.  the phenomenon occurs the longer you’re with someone.  those little annoyances or differences, that in normal situations (and especially during dating), would be easilydismissed or not even noticed – becomes ‘big’ issues the longer you’re with someone.  for example, when you’re initially dating this girl and she likes to spend thursday nights with her girls.  at first it’s a positive because it shows she has friends and a life.  but as the relationship becomes serious, it could be a factor in her not spending enough time with you.  i’m just saying, keep things in perspective to what are really ‘deal-breakers,’ like not into sci-fi.

had quite a bit of fun drawing this strip, because of the different background images, from the sleeping dog to the birds.  i did refrain from drawing the hot girl walking by though!

i think this is a fact of every relationship, from beginning to maturity – how to balance time with each other.  and there’s all kinds of them out there that work.  those where the couple are practically together nonstop to those who see each other once in awhile.  i guess the key is as long as both of you see eye to eye on the level.  i mean, no guy is gonna want a girl who is around nonstop, or vice versa.  but of course, there are some excuse like watching battlestar that should always take precedence!  wait a sec, girls before battlestar…

artwork-wise, hmm, what’s new?  the green brush?  haha, just kiddin.  i’ve actually just started takin an art class, so maybe in a couple weeks timeframe, you’ll see an infusion of some new styles.

how many things in your relationship can you do but your partner shouldn’t?  every relationship is different and with it comes a different criteria for a double standard.  is it the guy should mow the grass and the girl shouldn’t?  as much as we try to get away from gender specific roles, i still think every relationship has a certain degree of a double standard.  so what level are you comfortable with?  i don’t think there’s a right or wrong level, simply what works for a relationship.  well, got to go, my turn to cook tonight.

not sure if pulled off what i had envisioned in my mind.  i was trying to make each panel bigger and “in your face” to get more dramatic with each panel, signaling the spat between elle and finn was getting more heated.  and as for the storyline, i thought it was important to show how every couple eventually goes through some disagreements.  but hey, this is a light-hearted comic strip, i promise it won’t get too heated!

friend dynamics

friend dynamics

to me, it’s so interesting how the dynamics between friends change when one of them has a steady relationship while the others are on the prowl.  the most obvious difference is the choice of venues.  the single friends will justifiably want to hang out at more social locations to maximize their exposure.  whereas the friends with a steady relationship will probably choose more low key events, surrounding themselves with known people.  so how can these two worlds mix?  easy!  get the single friends to hook up and now everyone has a date!  really though, i have no idea but i’m sure it takes a lot of communication, understanding, and maybe even some distance.  your thoughts?

i was reading How to Make Webcomics by the guys over at halfpixel.com and one of their advice was that when put against a silhouette, each of your characters should be recognizable.  well, that’s def not true of my characters!  so, over the course of time, i may have to start morphing my characters to make them stand out more.  be patient with me as the characters may change appearances!

as relationships get closer and progress, there are some of those conversations that are “game-changers.”  questions like marraige, religion, politics, finances, etc.  i think these conversations are imperative, if only to avoid big problems in the future.  every so often i hear stories about how relationships, and even marraiges, break up because of they didn’t take the time to talk thru these things.  the tricky part of course is the timing of the question!  imagine asking being on a first date with a girl and asking her how many kids she wants!  hmm, then again, that could be a good pickup line…

colorful blankets!  nothing too difficult but it was fun to see the end product.  had a reader send in a suggestion for improvement and youshould be seeing that starting with this strip and others.  there was a faint white line around my blank inks and by adjusting the layer blending properties, they’re “magically gone!”
